Legends & Latte ~ a book review

High Fantasy with a double-shot of self-reinvention.

Goodreads synopsis –

Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.

However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.

A hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth.

First of all, I would like to thank the author – Travis Baldree for providing me with an e-arc of this book for an honest review !

My Review –

Before I start with anything, look at that cover first ! Isn’t it so pretty and attractive ? As much as the synopsis sounded intriguing, it was this cover that caught my eyes first. The cover art is done by @EmberWickArt (twitter) and he has done such a fantastic job !

You must know what the story is about till now but if you don’t then its about a barbarian Orc retiring from her warriors life to open a coffee shop of her dreams (you heard that right).

The author described this book as high fantasy and low stakes and I think that’s perfect. This book isn’t like your usual epic fantasy with tons of actions and lore and strong magic system. No, its none of that. This book is more about friendship and love and coffee and baking !

Between all the grimdark and action-packed fantasies I have been reading, this was a much needed break. I love everything wholesome and cozy and this book gave me all of that. I finished it in two sittings and that hasn’t been in so long. I wish more books like this would come out so that I can just lay back and relax while reading every now and then.

The themes of friendship and love is portrayed so well. Also, it has my favorite trope of all time- Found Family (always feels like a warm hug).

I loved all the characters (side or not) – Tandri, Cal and Thimble and of course the main character Viv. We see her journey as she tries to settle into her dream life along with trying to accept her past and she does that with help from old friends and new. It was very heartwarming.

Also, I should warn you to sit with a warm cup of coffee and some snacks while reading this book because its going to make you crave a whole lot of it in literally each and every page.

Overall – If you are looking for a book that will not keep you on the edge of your seat but instead cushion you with comfort and coziness with scent of coffee and desserts wafting around you then pick this book now ! Legends & Lattes is the ultimate slice-of-life fantasy novel.

My Rating – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
